Two compression modes
By target size: type "I want it under 200KB" and the tool finds the highest quality that fits. By quality: set quality yourself (0.1–0.95) when you know exactly what fidelity you need. WebP is the default output: same quality at two-to-three-tenths smaller than JPG, openable in every mainstream browser; pick AVIF for even smaller files (slower to encode); switch the output format when the receiving end only speaks JPG.
How do I read "saved XX%"?
Every result lists its before/after sizes. Landing at 30%–70% of the original is usually the sweet spot between quality and size; savings above 90% almost always mean visible quality loss — when the number looks too good, open the image and check the details.
